Msxml 4.0 Is Not Installed Correctly

The game may start, but the text in the game does not appear correctly.This problem occurs if the application cannot find Microsoft XML (MSXML) 4.0 or a later version installed on your computer. The MSXML service is necessary to run your game.

Run msxmlcab.exe to extract the dll and then copy MSXML4.dll into these folders:C:\Windows\System32C:\Windows\SysWOW64Once this is done try starting Age of Mythology again.

The MSXML 4.0 .cab File Redistribution Package makes it possible to distribute MSXML 4.0 through a Web download page, either on the Internet or on a private intranet. To do this, you need to create a Web page that upon opening references the msxml3.cab file. The msxml4.cab file then downloads the MSXML 4.0 DLLs (msxml4.dll, msxml4a.dll, and msxmldr.dll) to the user's system folder and registers MSXML 4.0 on the user's computer.

If MSXML 4.0 was previously installed on your test computer, delete the following files from your system directory:msxml4.dll, msxml4a.dll, and msxml4r.dll. The MSXML 4.0 DLLs are in the %windir%\system32 directory.

On Windows, TXMLDocument uses MSXML by default, which uses COM objects. Your thread is not calling CoInitialize/Ex() before loading the XML, so COM is not able to instantiate any of the MSXML COM objects that IXMLDocument attempts to create internally (it attempts to create multiple COM objects to discover which version of MSXML is actually installed). The error message you are seeing means all of the MSXML COM objects failed to instantiate.

I bought a textbook that came with an unused CD of Mathcad 15 M010; never used MathCad but it seemed interesting. Tried installing it on my Windows 10 laptop; it told me I was running Windows XP. Followed directions found here to fix that; it apparently installed correctly and took the product code,, so I assume I have a license. However when I try to launch the program nothing happens. Things I've tried so far:

Do not download msxml4.dll from a "DLL download" website. There are many reasons why it's a bad idea to download DLL files from sites like that. If you need a copy of this file, it's best to obtain it from its original, legitimate source.

MSXML 4.0 isn't the newest version of MSXML but it is the program necessary for replacing a missing or corrupt msxml4.dll file. MSXML 6.0, for example, though newer than v4.0, is necessarily if you're getting errors about msxml6.dll.

These servers are Windows 2012 R2 Datacenter edition. They were setup only a couple of months ago and while I don't recall installing old XML Parsers, it's possible it was auto installed or a coworker did it.

Does Nessus say why it considers it a 'critical issue'? I am generally hesitant to take the word of many of these scanning programs because they have to find something in order to be of 'value'. I just installed a 2012 R2 system. It has both version 3 and version 6 files. If they were a 'critical issue', I am sure Microsoft would have done something about it.

I'm horrified to see a suggestion that involves manually deleting an installed and registered component, and the recommendations regarding virus exclusions (below) indicate a poor grasp of the problem, and more generally of information security.

removing the msxml4 and msxml4r.dll from the C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ folder (and system32, if there) does not seem to clear the vulnerability from the nessus reports. is there something else which is required. I am writing this while on hold with Tenable to try to find out what their report is actually looking for.

Please let us know what tenable states. Running into same issue for a client with a tenable scan. We remove the msxml.dll file from System32 and SYSWOW64. On Reboot seems to get "reinstalled" with nothing in the logs stateing what reinstalled these files. Client is against running a scheduled task or startup script to remove these files over and over. Deleting file mid day, no end users complain of issues.

As you correctly noticed, using a version of MSXML that supports 64 bit architecture will solve your problem. You will not get MSXML4 to work with 64 bit clients - it simply does not support it, as was pointed in the other thread you have started on this subject.
