What You Need to Know Before Playing Pokémon GO

Now that you have downloaded Pokémon GO, you are ready to start your journey as a Pokémon trainer. But before you do, there are some things you need to know to make the most out of your experience. Here are some of the basic gameplay mechanics, benefits, risks, and tips for playing Pokémon GO.

The Basic Gameplay Mechanics of Pokémon GO

Pokémon GO is a game that combines augmented reality (AR) technology with location-based services (LBS) to create a virtual world where you can interact with Pokémon. The game uses your smartphones camera, GPS, and internet connection to overlay Pokémon and other features on the real-world environment. You can see Pokémon on your screen as if they were in front of you, and you can tap on them to catch them with Poké Balls.

The game also uses a map that shows your current location and the nearby landmarks, such as PokéStops and Gyms. PokéStops are places where you can get free items, such as Poké Balls, potions, berries, and eggs. Gyms are places where you can battle other players Pokémon and earn rewards, such as coins, badges, and items. You can also join one of three teams: Instinct (yellow), Mystic (blue), or Valor (red), and cooperate with your teammates to defend or conquer Gyms.

The main goal of the game is to catch as many different kinds of Pokémon as possible and complete your Pokédex, a digital encyclopedia that records all the Pokémon you have seen or caught. There are over 600 different species of Pokémon in the game, each with its own type, stats, moves, and evolution stages. Some Pokémon are more common than others, and some can only be found in certain regions or under certain conditions. You can also hatch Pokémon from eggs by walking a certain distance with them in an incubator.

Another goal of the game is to level up your trainer level and your Pokémons CP (combat power) and HP (hit points). Your trainer level determines how many features and items you can access in the game, such as raids, battles, research tasks, and friends. Your Pokémons CP and HP determine how strong they are in battles and raids. You can increase your trainer level by earning XP (experience points) from various activities, such as catching Pokémon, spinning PokéStops, completing research tasks, winning battles, and participating in raids. You can increase your Pokémons CP and HP by powering them up with stardust and candy, or by evolving them with candy.

The Benefits and Risks of Playing Pokémon GO

Pokémon GO is not only a fun and engaging game, but also a beneficial one for your health, well-being, and social life. Here are some of the benefits of playing Pokémon GO:

It encourages you to exercise more by walking around to catch Pokémon, hatch eggs, spin PokéStops, and visit Gyms. Studies have shown that playing Pokémon GO can increase your physical activity levels , which can improve your cardiovascular health, reduce stress, enhance mood, and prevent obesity.

It motivates you to explore new places and learn about local culture and history by finding PokéStops and Gyms at landmarks, monuments, museums, parks, art installations, and other points of interest. You can also discover hidden gems and scenic spots that you may not have noticed before.

It connects you with other players and fosters social interaction by joining teams, participating in raids and battles, trading Pokémon, sending gifts, making friends, chatting online or offline, joining communities, and attending events. You can also meet new people who share your passion for Pokémon and make lasting friendships.

It stimulates your brain and enhances your cognitive skills by challenging you to memorize, strategize, calculate, and problem-solve. You also need to pay attention to your surroundings and react quickly to catch Pokémon and avoid obstacles. Playing Pokémon GO can improve your memory, attention, spatial awareness, decision making, and creativity.

However, playing Pokémon GO also comes with some risks that you need to be aware of and avoid. Here are some of the risks of playing Pokémon GO:

It can distract you from your surroundings and cause accidents or injuries by making you walk into traffic, trip over obstacles, bump into people or objects, or trespass into private or dangerous areas. You may also encounter hostile people or animals that may harm you or your device. To prevent these risks, you should always be alert and respectful of your environment and other people when playing Pokémon GO. You should also follow the games safety tips and warnings, such as not playing while driving, not trespassing, and being aware of your surroundings.

It can drain your battery and data by using your GPS, camera, internet connection, and screen constantly. You may run out of power or data when you need them the most, or incur extra charges from your service provider. To avoid these risks, you should always bring a portable charger or a power bank with you when playing Pokémon GO. You should also turn off unnecessary features or apps on your device, such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or background apps. You can also use the games battery saver mode or download offline maps to save power and data.

It can expose your personal information and privacy by requiring access to your location, camera, contacts, and other data on your device. You may also share sensitive information with other players or third parties without your consent or knowledge. To protect your privacy and security, you should always read the games terms of service and privacy policy before downloading and playing Pokémon GO. You should also review the permissions and settings of the game and your device, and only grant access to what is necessary. You should also be careful about what you share with other players or online platforms, such as your real name, address, phone number, or photos.

The Best Tips and Tricks for Beginners

If you are new to Pokémon GO, you may feel overwhelmed by the many features and options available in the game. Dont worry, we have compiled some of the best tips and tricks for beginners to help you get started and enjoy the game. Here are some of them:

Choose your starter Pokémon wisely. When you first start the game, you will be offered to choose one of three starter Pokémon: Bulbasaur (grass type), Charmander (fire type), or Squirtle (water type). Each type has its own strengths and weaknesses against other types, so choose the one that suits your play style and preference. You can also skip choosing a starter Pokémon by walking away from them four times until a Pikachu (electric type) appears as a fourth option.

Catch as many Pokémon as possible. The more Pokémon you catch, the more XP, stardust, candy, and items you will get. You will also fill up your Pokédex faster and have more options for battles and raids. To catch a Pokémon, tap on it on the map and then swipe up on the screen to throw a Poké Ball at it. You can increase your chances of catching a Pokémon by using different types of Poké Balls (such as Great Balls or Ultra Balls), using berries (such as Razz Berries or Nanab Berries), aiming for the colored circle around the Pokémon (the smaller the circle, the better), and performing curveball throws (by spinning the Poké Ball before throwing it).

Spin PokéStops every day. PokéStops are places where you can get free items every time you spin them. You can find them at landmarks, monuments, museums, parks, art installations, and other points of interest. You can spin a PokéStop by tapping on it and then swiping left or right on the screen. You can spin a PokéStop once every five minutes, and you will get a bonus if you spin at least one PokéStop every day for seven days in a row.

Complete research tasks every day. Research tasks are missions that you can get from Professor Willow or from spinning PokéStops. They will ask you to do certain things, such as catch a certain number of Pokémon, hatch an egg, or win a battle. You will get rewards for completing each task, such as items, stardust, candy, or Pokémon. There are two types of research tasks: field research and special research. Field research tasks are random and can be deleted if you dont like them. Special research tasks are story-based and can only be completed once.

Join raids and battles with other players. Raids and battles are ways to test your skills and teamwork with other players. Raids are events where you can team up with up to 20 other players to defeat a powerful Pokémon (called a raid boss) at a Gym. You will need a raid pass to join a raid, which you can get for free once a day by spinning a Gym or by buying it with coins. You will get rewards for defeating the raid boss, such as items, XP, stardust, candy, and a chance to catch the raid boss. Battles are contests where you can challenge other players Pokémon in the GO Battle League or in friendly matches. You will need to use your own Pokémon and strategy to win the battles. You will get rewards for winning battles, such as items, XP, stardust, candy, and rank points.

How to Catch More Pokémon and Level Up Faster

Now that you know the basics of Pokémon GO, you may want to catch more Pokémon and level up faster. Here are some tips and tricks to help you achieve your goals:

How to Find and Catch Different Types of Pokémon

There are over 600 different types of Pokémon in Pokémon GO, each with its own type, stats, moves, and evolution stages. Some Pokémon are more common than others, and some can only be found in certain regions or under certain conditions. Here are some ways to find and catch different types of Pokémon:

Use the Nearby and Sightings features. The Nearby feature shows you the Pokémon that are near PokéStops in your area. The Sightings feature shows you the Pokémon that are in the wild in your area. You can tap on a Pokémon to see its location on the map and follow the footsteps to find it.

Use lures and incense. Lures are items that you can attach to PokéStops to attract more Pokémon to that location for 30 minutes. Incense are items that you can use on yourself to attract more Pokémon to your location for 30 minutes. You can get lures and incense from spinning PokéStops, completing research tasks, leveling up, or buying them with coins.

Use the weather and time of day. The weather and time of day affect the types of Pokémon that appear in your area. For example, water-type Pokémon are more common when it rains, fire-type Pokémon are more common when it is sunny, and ghost-type Pokémon are more common at night. You can check the current weather and time of day in the game by looking at the icons on the top right corner of the screen.

Use special events and features. The game often hosts special events and features that increase the spawn rate or variety of certain types of Pokémon. For example, there are Community Days where a specific Pokémon appears more frequently for a few hours, Spotlight Hours where a random Pokémon appears more frequently for an hour, Seasons where different types of Pokémon appear depending on the season of the year, and Adventure Sync where you can hatch eggs faster by syncing your game with your fitness app.

How to Use Items and Features to Boost Your Progress

There are many items and features in Pokémon GO that can help you boost your progress and level up faster. Here are some of them:

Use lucky eggs and star pieces. Lucky eggs are items that double your XP for 30 minutes. Star pieces are items that increase your stardust by 50% for 30 minutes. You can get lucky eggs and star pieces from spinning PokéStops, completing research tasks, leveling up, or buying them with coins. You should use them when you are doing activities that give you a lot of XP or stardust, such as catching Pokémon, hatching eggs, evolving Pokémon, completing research tasks, winning battles, or participating in raids.

Use evolution items and trade items. Evolution items are items that you need to evolve certain Pokémon, such as Sun Stone, Kings Rock, Metal Coat, Dragon Scale, and Up-Grade. Trade items are items that you need to trade certain Pokémon with another player to evolve them, such as Deep Sea Scale, Deep Sea Tooth, Dragon Scale, Electirizer, Kings Rock, Magmarizer, Metal Coat, Protector, Reaper Cloth, and Up-Grade. You can get evolution items and trade items from spinning PokéStops, completing research tasks, winning battles, or participating in raids.

Use buddy Pokémon and friends. Buddy Pokémon are Pokémon that you can choose to walk with you and earn candy and other benefits. You can choose any Pokémon as your buddy and change it at any time. You can increase your buddy level by interacting with it, such as feeding it berries, playing with it, taking snapshots of it, or battling with it. You can also make friends with other players and exchange gifts, trade Pokémon, battle together, or join raids together. You can increase your friendship level by interacting with your friends every day. You can get rewards for having a high buddy level or friendship level, such as bonus candy, bonus damage, bonus XP, or bonus items.

How to Join Teams and Participate in Raids and Battles

One of the most exciting aspects of Pokémon GO is joining teams and participating in raids and battles with other players. Here are some tips on how to do that:

Join a team. When you reach level 5, you will be asked to join one of three teams: Instinct (yellow), Mystic (blue), or Valor (red). Each team has its own leader and philosophy. You can choose the team that appeals to you the most or that has the most members in your area. Once you join a team, you can cooperate with your teammates to defend or conquer Gyms. You can also get bonuses for being on the same team as other players in raids or battles.

Participate in raids. Raids are events where you can team up with up to 20 other players to defeat a powerful Pokémon (called a raid boss) at a Gym. You will need a raid pass to join a raid, which you can get for free once a day by spinning a Gym or by buying it with coins. You can see the upcoming raids in your area by tapping on the Nearby button on the bottom right corner of the screen and then tapping on the Raid tab. You can also see the raid level (from 1 to 5 stars), the raid boss (if revealed), and the time left before the raid starts or ends. To join a raid, go to the Gym where the raid is happening and tap on it. Then tap on the Battle button and wait for other players to join or invite your friends to join. Once the raid starts, you will have a limited time to defeat the raid boss by tapping on the screen to attack and swiping left or right to dodge. You can also use special moves by holding down the screen when your energy bar is full. If you defeat the raid boss, you will get rewards, such as items, XP, stardust, candy, and a chance to catch the raid boss.

Participate in battles. Battles are contests where you can challenge other players Pokémon in the GO Battle League or in friendly matches. You will need to use your own Pokémon and strategy to win the battles. You can choose up to three Pokémon for each battle and switch between them during the battle. You can also use shields to block incoming attacks twice per battle. To join a battle, tap on the Poké Ball button on the bottom center of the screen and then tap on the Battle button. Then choose whether you want to join the GO Battle League or battle with a friend. If you choose the GO Battle League, you will need to select a league (Great, Ultra, or Master) and wait for an opponent. If you choose to battle with a friend, you will need to scan their QR code or use a battle code. Once the battle starts, you will have a limited time to defeat your opponents Pokémon by tapping on the screen to attack and swiping left or right to dodge. You can also use special moves by holding down the screen when your energy bar is full. If you win the battle, you will get rewards, such as items, XP, stardust, candy, and rank points.
